I'm a prairie girl who has been very fortunate to land and make my home on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula on Vancouver Island. In my almost 10 years here, I've succeeded in transforming my very unhappy, unhealthy life into one I've grown to love and I would really like the chance to help you do that, too!
A little about me:
After my son was born in 2012, I was plagued by chronic pain, tingling hands and feet and extreme fatigue. After many trips to the doctor, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.
Summed up, Fibromyalgia consists of chronic pain and fatigue. But there are over 100 varying symptoms, at any given time on any given day. Robbing you of any sense of normalcy, never knowing what ailment or issue you're going to face when you wake up after a less than restful sleep. It was something no new mother should have to deal with. I was prescribed a medication that I was told would help all of my symptoms, I started taking it and that was kind of it. Looking back, I should have done more research on this "wonder drug" but I know now that it was all part of my journey.
When my home life changed, my son and I left Alberta and relocated to the outskirts of Victoria, BC.
A short walk to the ocean and living alongside beaches, vineyards and daffodil farms started to do my soul some good but my body was failing me. I had no relief from any of the body aches or acute nerve pain. I had to nap on my lunch break at work just to get through the day. I was suffering through intense night sweats, changing bedding and clothing multiple times nightly. I had gained 60lbs. I couldn't hold a job for more than a year because I'd crash and burn trying to maintain my home life with a toddler and I was really struggling just trying to put one foot in front of the other, let alone keep a clean house, be a parent to a very challenging little boy and maintain some sense of balance.
Something needed to change and fortunately it did.
A new friend of mine provided me with some information about the medication I was taking, which was actually making my awful symptoms worse. I learned how to safely wean off of it over the course of 2 years and in the meantime found a healthier way of eating which in turn started my journey into a better me.
I turned 40 at this time, quit working full time in the healthcare industry and along with my new eating habits, made my way into healthier choices for me and my son.
This brought me to my first yoga class. It was with a feisty, very lovely lady with this magical singing bowl (I had never heard one before!) and I was hooked. Combined with learning how to meditate, it started me on my journey to a better mind, body, and soul and I felt healthier than I'd ever been. I also started the journey into learning how to love me.
After one year of practicing at my local community center, I decided to take the leap and enroll in an online yoga teacher training. I was passionate about sharing this gift I'd been given with other Fibro Warriors, people with injuries or limitations, and anyone else interested in the many benefits of yoga so that they could enrich their lives and create more balance.
I currently hold two 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certifications. The first, taken online in 2021 and the second, in studio, June 2024.
During this journey, yoga has brought out the deeply spiritual side of me that I always knew was there, I just didn't really know what it was or what to do with it. This led me to the practice of reiki and healing energy work. Here I hold a Level 2 Reiki practitioner certificate.
In addition to yoga and reiki, I am skilled in offering guided meditation, Yoga Nidra and sound healing.
I can't wait to share my knowledge and practices with you and to work with you on your own healing journey!
